Our Garden Science Program is supported by is a dedicated and creative group of teachers, staff and parents who are helping to transform our city schoolyard into an outdoor classroom. We all agree that getting our kids connected with nature is good for them. An outdoor classroom changes student's perspective on learning activities, enables direct investigation of biology and physical sciences, demonstrates where food comes from, and enables understanding what is good for the planet!
All elementary schools in San Francisco were given $125,000.00 through a 2003 San Francisco bond measure. It's was a real boon to have this "seed" money to begin our project. We will be fundraising and grant writing to supplement these funds in the future to sustain our program.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with fundraising, grant writing, special projects, and participating in classroom activities. We always need help in individual classrooms--and it doesn't have to be your child's classroom. If you have time available, please contact us.
